It’s been a good week in Room 4! We added a new boy to our class on Thursday, so now we have 22 students – 15 girls and 7 boys. We started our reading classes this week. There are four reading teachers for first grade – Mrs. Bosch, Mrs. Knudson, Miss Jimmie and me. We meet from 8:30 to 10:20. This year spelling will be included in the reading class. Most groups have been working on letter/sound review this week. Ask your child to tell you about their reading class.
Room 4 started Topic 1 in math – Numbers to 12. We have been working on counting and writing the numbers to 12. We also worked with dot patterns. Next week our Math RtI classes will start.
We started the “Getting to Know…” project this week. This is a share the pen activity to help us get to know each other a little better. This week we made posters for Mrs. Mack, Julianne, Isaiah and Bryce. I hope to be done with everyone by conference time so you can check out our posters then.
This week we learned the poem, “Magic Words” and our song was “Our Manners.” We also talked about manners and why they are important. Our stories were the pigeon stories by Mo Willems. The class really enjoyed the books.
The book orders for September came home on Tuesday. If you want to order books, please have the order form and money back at school by next Wednesday, September 3rd. You can also order online using your credit or debit card. Our class activation code is DVTV6.
Remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 1 because of Labor Day. Enjoy your long weekend together!
Until next week,
Mrs. Mack
