May 2016
Dear Families,
I can’t believe our school year is over already. I have really enjoyed working with your children. It was fun to watch them grow. They are good kids; you can be proud of them! They really made it fun to come to school. We’ve had challenges, but overall it’s been a great year. Thank you for all your support and encouragement. It really makes a difference!
You can help your child this summer by encouraging:
- Reading at least 10 minutes a day – Ask about what they’ve read. I’ve enclosed a sheet with some fun ideas to use when reading.
- Visiting the Public Library – The summer reading program starts on June 8th. Information on this program and other summer activities was sent home earlier or it is available at the City Library. I hope you’ll encourage your child to participate. It’s amazing how quickly reading skills can slip. Keep them reading!
- Reading aloud to family members
- Playing math games – review addition and subtraction facts, count change, and tell time
- Writing letters to relatives
- Keeping a summer journal
I would appreciate hearing from you about the strengths of your child’s first grade year or the areas you feel need improvement. Stay active in your child’s education. Your interest plays a vital role. Your kids are special! Give them a hug and have a GREAT summer!
P.S. If you happen to find any books from our classroom or class library at home during the summer just send them back this fall.
